its been a while ago that i wrote a blog. We are camping a lot and we need power for the laptop. Bad combination... Luckily all the things we did were awesome again. First things first... YELLOWSTONE!
The park of the extreme,. When we arrived we felt right away that it was pretty cold. We were sleeping at this campground were we reserved for 3 nights. After putting our tent down, we wanted to discover Yellowstone a bit. But the park is huge! it is a 4 hour drive from top to bottom. Lets say that the park is bigger than Holland... So we went to a basin close by. The basin called West Tumb and this was our first meeting with the beauty of Yellowstone. First we thought we saw fire, but it was just the steam from all the basins and geysers. It looks weird, but beautiful. It really gave us a WOW!
That night in the tent was terrible. We were freezing and couldnt sleep at all. We were up early, sleeping wasnt possible and we wanted to do this great hike. Yellowstone is a touristic park and we saw a lot of people everywhere. But when we were up early and drove to the trailhead, there were just 2 other people. We saw the park waking up. Beautiful sunrise, a lot of animals and no tourist!
Our first day we went to see a waterfall. It was pretty cool. The trail started far away from the fall and brought us pretty close there. We even walked down a stairs, almost next to the waterfall. It was a great view. after a day full of hiking near the waterfall we went to the visitorscenter, to get some newspaper. We needed to isolate the tent. We put garbage bags on the ground, on top of that newspaper, than our airmatras and our sleepingpads. I need to say, it was a little bit better than the first night, but still freeeeezing cold! So again, woke up early.

The second day we climbed up Mount Washburn. One of the highest points of Yellowstone, were they have a fire-overlook. It was a great hike. We were talking a lot because you need to make sound for the bears. At one point I stopped in the middle of our conversation and pointed to tim.... 'Tim there is a bear!!!". Tim got his bear spray what we bought and i was making noise by ringing or bearbell. It was a blackbear, luckily, because there are also grizzlies in Yellowstone, and those can be aggressive. It was a big black bear. But he was really relaxt and walked down the mountain, looking for food. We passed him carefully on a distance of 20 meters i think. We made noise and he knew we were walking there, but he didnt care at all. It was an amazing experience!
At the top of Mount Washburn we had an amazing view over Yellowstone. We could see everything. We stayed up the mountain for a while to enjoy the view. And before we knew everybody was awake and there were more than 20 people on top of the mountain... On the way back, we saw the black bear again but this time there were 20 people taking pictures of him. Was a different experience. Our third and last night on this campground was a bit better. I put our towels on the inside tent like curtons. and it helped a bit. the coldest we know of was 19 degrees Fahrenheit, thats minus 7 degrees Celcius....

Next day we went to a new campground, the one the most south of the park. That day we left and did a big drive through the park. We started with all the geysers and than continued to this small road. What showed us a lot of beauty from Yellowstone. The weather that day was pretty good and we came by a river where we could swim. First we just felt with our feet but before we knew we were taking a dive into this cold and refreshing water. At our last geyser we waited over an hour to see him explode. But it is really cool to see. While waiting, we saw big clouds in the air. I joked to Tim that it was a fire, and we laughed about it. While driving back to the campground, the rangers hold us still. There was a big nature fire at the south entrance of the park... They didnt let people through, only when you where on the campground. But the ranger were we talking to got a phone call and let us through without telling us how bad or not bad the fire was. Arriving at the campground it was not that busy anymore. People were talking to each other. One said that the rangers already evacuated the campground earlier this day. The other said it was not necessary. And of course there was no ranger around... In the end we were talking to this guy from our age, he was alone camping out there and doing a big national park road trip. And he made a fire his own (in the fire pit, no worries) so we joined him the whole night. Talking about everything and anything. His name is Miles and we had a lot of fun together. It was a great night. After we went to bed, i couldnt sleep at all. there was a fire 'close by' and nobody told me how bad it was. After a terrible sleep it took us a while to find a ranger. While talking to the ranger it started to rain. We decided to go to a rangerstation and ask for a nice hike. while driving up there (2 hour drive) the rain became thicker slowly. Before we new it looked like wet snow and a little bit further it started to snow.. It was the weirdest thing we ever saw. When we arrived at the rangerstation it was snowing hard.. and everything was white. It was really really really beautiful. A winter wonderland. At the ranger station we bumped into Miles. And the three of us had no clue at all what to do. We watched Old Faithfull, the biggest geyser, exploding. And did a small hike, but it was really cold. We threw some snowballs and had fun. Miles came from Florida and hadnt seen a lot of snow in his life. After that we went for a nice warm choco. In the end it was a nice day.. but the weirdest ever. A day before this, we swam in a river, there was a big fire and now there was snow and everything was white.. All the bisons were white, we couldnt see any basins anymore. The steam was too heavy...

Lets not talk about that night in our tent. There was a lot of snow laying on our tent and it was cold. The next day we left. We didnt wanted to but the cold kind of got us. We saw Yellowstone in different kind of shapes and it was amazing. But we will be back to discover the rest of Yellowstone!!

We did a lot more after Yellowstone, it is already a month ago.. but thats for the next blog :)
