After the big Yellowstone adventure we stayed in a motel to warm up a bit. But our trip continues! We went to Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho. We were camping on a free campground, what was a really nice one. The state organizes this, lucky us :).
Craters of the Moon was something different again. It was an old volcanic landscape what really looked like the moon. We did a hike next to the craters, where years ago the volcano exploded. After that we went to the caves of Craters of the Moon. And like we said after we visit Windcave in South Dakota, we wanted to be cave explorers.. In Craters of the Moon that was absolutely possible! you cold climb into the caves on your own. It were small caves created by the lava. It was really cool. We did some crawling under low ceilings. But all the caves had a dead end.. It was our first experience with 'real' cave exploring haha. Who knows what it will bring next. On the free campground we met a couple from Oregon. They had a book about hidden hotsprings. We took some pictures of the book... you never know what it will bring in the future.
The next day we went to Boise, the capital of Idaho. We were staying at a RV campground. Some people really bring there whole home with them on holiday. It is weird for us to see. The little campers we have in Holland are nothing next to this. Boise was a really nice city what is growing. There was a big festival overthere and we enjoyed ourselfs friday night at the festival. The concept of the festival is the same as we have at home. But still it is really different. It is hard to explain, but the whole atmosphere is different than we are used to. Fun to see and discover. Our time in Boise felt like a vacation in our trip. After the cold in Yellowstone, it was finally warm again and we were relaxing over there. Felt good! our second day we went to a NASCAR race in a village next to Boise. It was not an official NASCAR race but a type of. I never seen a race in my life and i was curious if i would like it. Luckily we had this amazing couple sitting next to us. They were in to the racing and told us everything, about how it worked and it turned out to be the finals of this race! First i thought would be crazy to just drive in circles, but it was awesome to see! It started with practicing and the last race where the finals. We were there at 4 oclock and the race ended at 10. Was a long day for us, but we really liked it! Dennis, who was sitting next to us, told us a few things about the drivers. There was a young girl driving in one of the big cars. He knew her and she was one of the best. Of course we start cheering for her. It was an exciting game. Didnt expect i would like it, but i did! after the race we walked in the pit, was cool to see the cars nearby. and we have a signature for the girl!! YEAH!

After Boise we used the hotsping book as a guide. We went to this really nice hotspring in the middle of nowhere. we camped there for one night and we were the only once. It was really beautiful and the hotspring was amazing, especially in the evening and morning. It was a random and cool experience. Its great to have an open road and make plans on the day before.

Our next trip was to Oregon! we couldnt wait because we knew we were gonna meet Frank en Marleen there. Frank en Marleen are friends of us from Amsterdam. They are doing a roadtrip too. They just started in LA and went up to Oregon. This was our meeting place. But before we met them we went to the John Day Fossil Bad National Monument. Part of this were the painted hills, the sheeprock and clarno unit. Those are all beautiful mountains. The painted hills are colored in red, black and sand color. The sheeprock is blue/green and the clarno unit is really big with beautiful sculptures. The colors are already special, but this area is known for the fossils. in every hike there were signs what explained the area. They found really old fossils here and it turned out that the desert area it was now, was once a jungle. Again we saw something different, and it was beautiful.
Because they expected a lot of rain, we went to the closed town nearby. This was prineville. We wanted to stay there one night and than meet up with Frank and Marleen. When we entered the campground there, it turned out there was a rodeo that weekend. It was pretty easy to convince Frank and Marleen to come to Prineville. It was great to see Frank and Marleen, nice to have some dutch around us. We forgot how that was.. and we also forgot how big dutch are hahaha. Most of the Americans we met are pretty small, we always feel kind of big. But luckily Frank and Marleen are tall! ;-)
That night we went to the rodeo. This is the weirdest sport we have ever seen... it is kind of intense. They started with people riding on horses for 8 seconds. Those animals are strong and kick there legs everywhere. They had also other things they do, like jumping off a horse to get the little calf, and wrestling it on the ground. Or jumping off the horse to get the cow and milk it... We were pretty surprised. The last part of the rodeo was the one we know. Sitting on a steer what is going crazy. If you can do that for 8 seconds you get points. There was one guy who did that and when he fell down he was knock-out. Lets say it was a special evening for us. We had a lot of fun.
The next day there was a beauty peagant. The contest was about Miss rodeo 2017. this was also the weirdest thing for us. I never saw that kind of make-up on girls.. And the only thing they did was walking, waving and laughing. After that they needed to answer 5 questions. Everybody got the same questions and had the same answers. Is was an event we will never forget.
After that we spend a few more days with Frank and Marleen in different places. We saw the first debate between Hillary and Trump together. Everytime we think we saw the craziest thing of America, it gets worse... Trump was really bad in the debate and Hillary blew him away. We made a lot of jokes about it. But it is still crazy that a country like this, has candidates like that. We will follow the rest of the debates for sure. we are kind of curious how it goes.
It is weird to be back in the left-states. In the midwest we met a lot of conservative people and saw a lot of trump signs. Now we are in Portland and it is a whole different way of thinking. Really interesting.

Oh and a last thing, our last day before we went to Portland, we were chilling on this beautiful lake with Frank and Marleen. When Marleen and i were standing in the water there came a boat to us. Before we knew it we were on it and before we knew it we tried to do some waterskiing!!!
