Canada part 2 (and 3...)

Blijf op de hoogte en volg Bo en Tim

13 Augustus 2016 | Verenigde Staten, Detroit

After a few days Ross also arrived in Canada and of course we went for a beer right away! We went over to the Quebec side, the french province of Canada, for some food. Ottawa is on the border of the french province, you only have to cross a big river.
Quebec is famous for his poutine. So of course we had to try it. Let me explain what poutine is, after that you probably guess if we liked it or not.
Poutine is french fries with cheese (so far so good) and then drenched with a greasy sauce... that is the basic but you have many different kinds. I had one with chicken and Tim one with vegetables to make it a little bit better. While eating we actually enjoyed it, but that night our stomach didnt. But everybody told us that is part of the experience. It is more a meal for after a night of drinks.

We went together with Ross to his Cottage. His great granddad build this cottage 100 years ago. They had added some building in the past few years but the main one was the old one :). the added buildings looked the same though. It was really cool. There was no electricity, no running water, nothing! It was on this amazing lake. The cottage was in Algonquin Park. Because the cottage was that old and still in the family it was allowed to have a cottage over there. Ross told us a lot about the history of the park. There used to be an old Hotel on the lake and a train what runs through the park. And you still saw the leftovers of the old trainrail. Ross was an amazing tour guide and we really enjoyed it. His granddad wrote a book about the history of the park and Ross gave it to us. We are really happy with it!! The first day we were just swimming there, drinking some beers and enjoying the view.
The next day we went on our first canoe trip! It was the three of us and 2 big bags in the canoe. I dont know how we did it, but it worked out. We were going over those beautiful lakes. And every time when we needed to go to an other lake, Ross portached the canoe. So he was carrying the canoe through the woods to the next lake. The trip was not that long but I felt it everywhere in my body. those mussels were not used to it. (Tim says: hahah i agree)
We stayed over at a lake what was 2 lakes further than the lake from the cottage. We were staying in the middle of the lake on an island, it was pretty cool! We needed to search for our own wood to make a fire and cook on the fire. And of course we made some smooooorse! jummmie!

After we got back from the cottages we went to Montreal. Montreal is in Quebec and it really looks like Europe. It is a really beautiful city, we liked it a lot. We were staying at Beths old roommate, Marie. She was amazing. She just let the 4 of us staying in her house without a problem! Thank you so much Marie! We really hope to see you in Amsterdam one day :)
The first day was really rainy... so what do you do in an awesome city when it is raining? Going to a bar!!! Ross his brother lives in Montreal so we went for a beer with him and his girlfriend. Also two friends of beth joined. So we had a lot of fun! We did do some walking around the city but not that much the first day. but after the bars we walked home and we did saw a lot. What a beautiful city!!!
We made a deal with one of Beths friends Tom, that we would give a safety rapport of all the cities we would visit. So we will share it with you too! We marked Montreal as save in the city, we walked there at nights and totally felt save. The only thing what was not that save were the highway bridges... haha! Everybody told us that there is a lot of maffia there and they make the bridges themself but it doesnt look that good.... big negative point on the safety rapport! (oh Beth and Ross, we do know that it is the mermaids..)

After Montreal we went back to Ottawa but we stopped at park Omega. What was fun. It is a park where you drive around with your car and there are walking deer and elk free. So we bought a lot of carrots to feed them. We laughed a lot. those animals knows how it works and will just stand in front of the car, waiting till you pay your toll. A few of them were pretty big!!

The day after we went to Toronto, the big city! Toronto was such a different city than Ottawa and Montreal. This really looked like a North American city. it even looked a little bit like New York. The Canadian NY. We were staying in an Airbnb. What looked more like an hostel. It was kind of funny, when we arrived at the door there were different things hanging there. A phone with a note on it: pick up, a webcam with a note: talk here and a note with phone numbers. So we picked up the phone but nobody answered. after calling there was a guy coming with a straw head on where his name was written on and his phone number. He send us to one of his other houses he owned and also rented out. It was a better room with airco. So we went there and it was pretty good. Simple but clean! The first day we tried to go to a Blue Jays game - the baseball team from Toronto. but it was sold out, what never happen... so we didnt go. Too bad!
But that night we had the Cat Empire, I gave this concert as a present to Tim. Ross joined us and I need to say: WHAT AN AMAZING CONCERT! Ross has seen the Cat Empire more often but said this was the best show he has seen from them. It was really really really good! the concert hall was kind of cool too. The floor wasn't straight. So when you were standing in the back you were standing a little bit higher so it was easy to watch over peoples head. Kind of cool, never saw that before.
The next day we went to Niagara Falls with Ross Beth and Dan (beth boyfriend)! The town next to it is kind of crazy and looks like Las Vegas but the falls are insane! really beautiful but busy. There were of course a lot of tourist. Before we went away my granddad told me he had been to the Niagara Falls a few times and the first time there were no tourist at all. When we were there I tried to pictures what he saw back than but that was kind of hard with all the boats, ziplines and thousands of people. But beautiful it was. That night we went to a dancing class with Dan.. that is what he told us so we were not that exciting about it. But than we arrived there was his dancing event on every thursday at the waterside. There were shows, some lessons and just free dancing. It was really really nice. It was a salsa night so we were thinking about Suriname.
Our last night Ross left to Ottawa to spend some time with friends over there. We were sleeping at Dans place. He was doing some summer school at Toronto University. So we were sleeping in a residence. So the real North American thing, on a campus and everything. Was a cool campus but the rooms were small and really hot. But still cool to be part of this. The last night we went to visit two friends of Beth. One living in a really good neighborhood in Toronto but a little bit further down. And one living in downtown but a 'bad' neighborhood. And i need to say, i liked the bad one better haha. Of course there were people on the street asking for change. But that was also in other parts. But it was kind of cozy and we didnt felt unsafe at all. So the safety rapport for Toronto was pretty good! im curious what Tom thinks about the safety in Amsterdam :)

Something really cool what we did in Ottawa was driving around with the best tour guides ever: Beths parents Phil and Diane. They gave us a tour through the rich neighborhood what was kind of cool to see and in the downtown area. Phil worked for the famous market in downtown and knew a lot about everything. Thank you so much Phil and Diane for everything, we felt at home and felt part of the family while staying at your house.

We had an amazing time in Canada and we will be back for sure. Beth, you are the best girl! thank you so much for everything!! miss you already and cant wait to see you soon!
Ross, thank you so much for showing us around. Was really cool to finally see your place after so many times in Holland. ;-) you are amazing and we will be sure with seeing you soon.
Everybody we met there was amazing and made the time unforgettable!

Now we are in Detroit on an Organic Farm what is a whole different kind of experience. But i will tell you everything about it laterrrrrr.
