So my last blog I ended with: we are going for a beer in Grand Junction. And we did. We ended up in this really cool bar with live music. After the music stopped, we were chilling at the bar for just 'one more beer'. Before we knew it we were drinking shots with these two awesome guys and talking about everything. We had a really good evening.
People are really open to us and we like it a lot. We had some cool conservations so far with locals. First the two guys in the bar and the day after we were talking to this guy in a store. We talk a lot about the upcoming election with everybody and what they think about it. A lot of people are open minded and really think about the consequences. But the guy in the store was telling us that it was not a common opinion... We talked for an hour with the man until this other woman came into the store. Before we knew it, we were standing outside. The guy thanked us for the nice conversation and wished us a nice trip. It was kind of weird because we were in the middle of the conversation but then we realized it was because of the lady who just walked in.
There is happening a lot in the states right now.. Crazy, different and really informative.

After a great time in Grand Junction we were off to the Rocky Mountain National Park (NP) in Colorado. The drive was not that long but really beautiful. Colorado has a ton of different landscapes. So we enjoyed the ride. We were staying at the Campground in the NP. When we arrived we already felt the altitude difference. We were not sure how high it was but we felt the difference in our breathing.
We only booked one night because there was no more space on the campground. But thats what the internet said. So the next day we asked the Rangers if there was some space. In the end we stayed there for 4 nights, without any problem.

One of the Rangers was a elderly man, who was retired but liked working for the NP. He explained all his favorite trails to us and told us he has been in the Netherlands. We were really enjoining the conversation. a little bit later, Tim went back to ask something and this Ranger was there again. He asked Tim what he was thinking of the Brexit. So Tim told the guy that he though it was not a good decision for the UK and EU. Than this man turned around and was saying they got there reasons and he talked about the immigration problems. he was going really far in this and I will not write down what he was saying, because it was terrible. But we are sure this man will vote for Trump..... It is weird what it did with us. After he said all those ugly things, we were taking more distance.
Since we are on the road we are learning a lot about the politics here and we are getting to appreciate our system more and more!

After this weird experience we did some nice hikes. Just little once to get used to the altitude and the difficult breathing. The next day we wanted to go climb mount Ida, but the weather was not really good. We had a lot of rain when we were in the Rockies and one morning it was just 4 degrees.... So we decided to skip mount Ida that day and to do it the next day. We turned out making a good decision. So the day after we were ready to climb mount Ida. And i need to say, it was amazing but also really hard because of the altitude. Mount Ida was almost 4.000 m (4km) so thats pretty high.
We made it to the top and I never felt this before, it was amazing. It was so beautiful that it almost made me cry. An experience we will never forget. On our way back down it started to rain really hard, so it was cold, heavy and we were getting tired. So the last few meters were hell. When we were down i could cry again, but this time of tiredness haha. But this was a real highlight!

After our big climb we wanted to organize something fun for 4th of July. We were thinking that going into a big city would be nice. So we decided to go to Denver. First we tried to couchsurf but that was kind of hard because everybody has plans for 4th of July. So we stayed in a international youth hostel. Sounds good right? Meeting people, have some beers and enjoying independence day! But it turned out that local people were living in the hostel... At the moment the rents are really high in Denver. Somebody told me that she looked at a 2 bedroom apartment and the cost was 4.000 dollars a month. So instead of paying a lot of money people were living at a hostel for 600 a month! and sleeping with 10 others in a room. Those are real roommates...
We were definitely not at the same level as those guys when we arrived. So we looked at an other hostel but we heard from 2 french guys it was a little bit the same over there. We hang out with those two and saw our first game from the EU cup. After that we went to this lovely Art festival, where we hang out for a bit, by then we were with the two of us again. The french guys were scared it was gonna rain... We dutchies are used to it! ;-)
When we had some dinner we did it downtown and it turned out we were having dinner in a karaoke bar. So we stayed there for a long time and had a lot of fun. The city was busy because it was the night before 4th of July! We had a good time and enjoyed ourself. The next day was the big day... the 4th!!
But it turned out nothing was going on in the city... we asked a few people and everybody just knew about the fireworks, but couldnt tell us where the fireworks would be and what time it started. So we hang out in the city, sitting on a terras, talking to this really nice guy about politics (of course), religion and other stuff. What was really nice. We even went to the movie theater (because we didnt wanted to go back to the hostel haha). We found out where the fireworks was but we were sitting pretty far from it, so it was not that special.
We had a nice time but not what we expected from it. Denver was nice but a weird city and im not sure if i would recommend it.

But the next and new adventure was there already! We were going to Michigan to sleep at this really nice and lovely lady her garden. there is this nice website it called: campinmygarden.com and you can camp in people there gardens. Really cool. We stayed in Sharon her garden. Sharon had this mini pet rescue farm and it was amazing. She had 4 nice dogs and 5 cats. We played a lot with the dogs and enjoyed ourself. Went to the beach and went to this little farmers market where Sharon was selling her soaps. She makes lovely soaps! We tried a few when we were there and of course we bought some. The soaps are amazing.
We had a great time and Sharon was an amazing host! Thank you so much Sharon. Hope to see you again one day!

it was 11 hours to Ottawa so we planned to have a stop in the middle. But we were really on the go when driving to Beth and we got really excited. So we drove all the way to Ottawa! It is so so so so so so so nice to see Beth again and see her here in Canada. Staying at her place and everything. Of course we already did a lot of nice stuff, but i will tell you about it next time. I will write a special Canada blog, because we are gonna do really nice stuff here (Montreal, Toronto, Niagara waterfalls etc.) ^^

Keep you posted!
